The Landscape Drainage Experts 8 Step Process

Step 1:  Evaluation and Design

We begin by identifying problem areas in your yard where stormwater collects or soil stays saturated. Then, we create a customized yard drainage plan that may include trench systems, yard drains, or underground pipes—designed to move water away efficiently and protect your landscape. Our proven approach ensures long-lasting landscape drainage that keeps your yard dry and functional.

step 1 image
Step 2:  System Selection

Next, we determine the most effective yard drainage system for your property. Depending on your yard’s slope, soil type, and stormwater flow, we may install buried downspouts, sump pump extensions, or a yard drain connected to a trench or dry well. For low-lying areas, we often recommend a pump-assisted landscape drainage solution. French drains and underground pipe systems are also used to redirect water efficiently and keep your yard dry year-round.

step 2 image
Step 3:   Digout

The drainage digout is the hardest and most labor-intensive stage of the project. Our French drains are typically 12”-18” deep by 12” wide, depending on the amount of pitch we have. We also use a laser level to make sure the system has the proper pitch. The pitch is the most important part of a system because without pitch, the system won’t work. When connecting the downspouts, we dig 12” deep. In the event of not having gravity and pitch, we will use a Well and pump-assisted system. This is typically 6 feet deep by 4’x4’ wide; we do this to avoid freezing during the winter.

step 3 image
Step 4:  Installation

Our expert team installs the drainage system precisely where needed. This includes installing French drains with 6″ collection basins every 20′. We use a tough 4” perforated pipe with filter fabric and 3/4” gravel. This is a crucial part of the system because it collects and absorbs all the standing water. If gravity is lacking, we upgrade to a well and pump-assisted system for efficient water removal.

step 4 image
Step 5:  Connect Downspouts

We integrate your downspouts and sump pump into the drainage system to ensure efficient water management. All the downspouts are connected using 9″ collection basins that filter out leaves and debris, promoting smooth flow. Your sump pump is also tied into the system, providing a reliable discharge point that helps prevent freezing and protects your yard from flooding.

step 5 image
Step 6:  Grading for Effective Drainage

Proper yard grading toward the French drain is crucial for directing water flow and maximizing system efficiency. We ensure everything is graded away from the house to prevent water buildup.

step 6 image
Step 7: Directing Water Flow

We carefully direct the water flow, either channeling it to a storm sewer or directing it to a low point in the yard with a pop-up emitter, ultimately leading it off the property. In cases where gravity is absent, we utilize a well and pump-assisted system.

step 7 image
Step 8: Installing New Sod

Fresh sod plays a crucial role in facilitating water movement within the drainage system without creating a mess. Moreover, it enhances the overall appearance of your yard, creating an inviting space for making cherished family memories!

How Ware Landscaping Can Help With Yard Grading for your Home in Naperville?

Grading plays a pivotal role in both drainage projects and the overall health of your yard. With our landscaping services, we meticulously address grading concerns in every project we undertake. In the context of a French drain project, proper grading is particularly crucial. Without grading the yard away from your house and into the French drain, the drainage system would be ineffective. Ensuring proper grading is accounted for and addressed in every drainage job is essential for the system to operate at its designed capacity.

“I contacted Mike at Ware Landscaping for help with fixing my flooded backyard and garage. We are usually the more expensive option, but it’s worth every bit. Our system is the most effective and hands down the best option.

We are usually the more expensive option, but it’s worth every bit. Our system is the most effective and hands down the best option.

Absolutely not, it’s actually the complete opposite! After the system is installed, you won’t even be able to tell it was ever installed, and all of your water problems will be totally solved.

You can walk on the yard right away, and the crews that cut the yard can cut the grass right away.

Yes definitely! You will see the leaves getting caught before getting into the system, and this will prevent the system from getting clogged.

It actually helps the neighbors and dries out part of their yard too.
