Terminology is important when it comes to talking about your outdoor space. Many people use the words patio and deck or patio and porch interchangeably to mean “any outdoor entertaining space.” However, there are distinct differences between these projects.

Patio are much better because decks tend to create drainage problems and over time the sub grade starts sloping back towards the house. Where as a patio you have slope everything away from the house over the surface of the patio. If you decide to do a permeable paver patio you can install a drainage system under the paver to ensure that you will never have water problems. Lastly decks tend to attract a lot of critters and animals. A lot of the time if you have pets they will expirenece getting “skunked” from skunks living under decks. Patios hands down are a better way to go!
